Oh well. Microsoft and Sony are getting ever closer to unveiling the pixel crammed, visual effects laden, graphics card screaming gaming consoles to the public that will, no doubt convince us all to part with way too much money, so that we can enjoy real time reflections and shadows, from either a pneumatically breast laden, butt-kicking heroine, or a muscle bound, steroid induced looking hero.

The fact that both consoles are to be released this year tells us something about a cartel agreement to simultaneously drain the precarious economy of the west with this new digital console.

What I do find interesting is the fact that it appears as though both manufacturers are now no longer leaning towards, but rather marching full steam ahead into the world of the digital media device, promising to bring movies, TV and music to us all, not just games.

To borrow a phrase, the future is indeed bright for digital media, a lesson learned no doubt from watching the success of Roku and others in that field.

I expect that the next Xbox and PS4 will be hits, I just hope that it is not at the cost a decline in western culture, as more and more of us are drawn into the dull LCD glow of a TV or computer screen. Remember the world is out there, not in the collection of coded instructions we call a game.

The tektalk5 podcast will return next week.

This week the attack on the inter-network had its roots in a disagreement between an organization, whose aim is to keep us safe from spam, an another , whose intention is to have our inbox bursting with pleas from Nigerian statesmen that did not pass through a spell checker, or worse yet, the promise to meet singles in your area.

It seems as though there will always be a set of individuals whose sole aim in life is to bombard us with nonsense e-mails in the hope that this carpet bombing approach will yield enough of a response to make their silly unfulfilled and petulant lives worthwhile. That they can somehow manage to con a blue rinsed grandma, or a wide eyed youngster into giving up their personal details, only to be fleeced of, at the very least, their dignity.

Shame on you.

<itunes:summary>For some incomprehensible reason, there are people out there who are of the belief that If the internet does not do what they want it to, they have the right to attack it with the unfettered ignorance of a teenager arguing with his or her doting parents.

Shame on you.</itunes:summary>
